In Word 2007, you can use the asterisk (*) character to automatically create a bulleted list. When you type in the asterisk character, Word recognizes that you want to create a bulleted list. Also, when you type in a number one, Word automatically assumes that you want to create a numbered list. If you do not like this feature, you can turn off automatic lists no matter it's a numbered or bulleted lists so that you have to create them manually.
