"Save Word Document As PDF - The 5 Steps Process!"

Do you know how to save word document as pdf format with Microsoft Word program alone?

Yes, before release of Office 2007, you must use the third party program to convert your Word document to the pdf format.

With the releases of Office 2007 and Office 2010, you can save your Word document to the pdf format with few clicks of your mouse!

But before you save your documents to the pdf format, you should always save your documents in the Word default format, that's .doc or .docx. Let's see how to do it.

Saving a document can avoid losing your work and also enables you to use it at another time in the future such as perform editing on the document.

To save a document in Word 2010

  • Click the File tab. The Word 2010 Backstage view appears.
  • Click Save As tab.
  • Word 2010 save as dialog box

  • From the Save As dialog box displayed, type a name for the document in the File name: box.
  • If you want your document can be open in Word 2003 or older versions, click the Save as Type: drop-down menu and select Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc).
  • You can select a location on your computer in which to save the document.
  • Once finish, click on Save button. Word saves the document and displays the name you supplied in the title bar.

Note: Word 2010 uses the same XML-based file format (.docx) that Word 2007 uses. This file format is different than the file format used in prior versions of Word (.doc), and it reduces the size of a Word document, improving the likelihood of recovering information from a corrupt file.

To save Word document as PDF file (.pdf)

  • Click the File tab. The Word 2010 Backstage view appears.
  • Click Save & Send tab.
  • Word 2010 save as pdf

  • In the File Types section, click on Create PDF/XPS Document. Then, click on Create PDF/XPS button.
  • From the Publish as PDF or XPS dialog box displayed, type to change a name for the PDF document in the File name: box.
  • Ensure the Save as Type: box is set to PDF (*.pdf).
  • Click the Publish button.
